… anyway, what constitutes “observable” universe? Is that the same as “known” universe? I ask because I can’t fathom how even a hive mind machine like that could possibly know how big the universe actually is.
I also can’t really fathom an entity of any kind just erasing something that’s supposed to be infinite, but never mind.
The observable Universe is the extent of the Universe that can be observed from Earth. Because of the limits of the speed of light, it takes a longer time for light from the edge of the Universe to reach Earth than for light that’s closer to Earth.
In reality, we don’t actually know if the Universe itself has a concrete size (a range within which all matter exists in, and outside of that range matter not existing), or if it simply extends infinitely in all directions with an infinite number of stars. However, we do know that we slowly see more and more of the Universe over time; that is, the amount of the Universe that is visible to us is increasing, as the light from those distant parts of the Universe slowly reach us for the first time.
Wikipedia has an article about it, if you want to read more. It might explain it better than my increasingly sleepy brain can.
Oop, I remembered some info wrong. Just want to correct myself and say that due to the fact that the Universe’s expansion is accelerating over time, the size of the observable Universe is actually decreasing, and in about 5 billion years from now there will be slightly fewer things in the sky that are detectable simply because of this.
I’d say you should take words «1% of observable universe remeans» literally: by now they can not see or observe 99% of objects they had seen before. I guess it would feel like the whole world of possibilities has shrunken, there are almost no stars in the clear sky remains, and there is even just a little ground left (8%) so stand on.
Also I prefer to think that the universe does not get destroyed but more like it gets “inaccessible”, by changing it’s form, or structure.
And, by any means, the observable universe is only finite fracture of the universe, so technically it may be fully destroyed or “erased” in finite time.
… Oh… The sky is no longer full of stars. It’s full of Vitrin chipping away at the shield.
That is terrifying.
How long have you had that reveal planned for? Was that part of the plan since Tale of Tails started? It’s making me want to look back at all the night scenes and see if I can notice anything weird about the stars.
Wow. I always love it when authors do a bit of world building, to really give the reader some background, but this is taking that to a whole other level.
Is it weird I imagine LARS’ voice as the voice of KITT?
Probably the most accurate, actually.
If she wants tits! Who’s better than miss Alia XD ….Am I right?
Tits… She wants to wrap her mind around it. And, I guess, Mis’Alia may go rub it in her face, as it is. Harsh truth.
Yep exactly! :/
Well. That’s…

*finite fraction
O! The corroded sky!
What does Alfred think about the Coil and “if you are a bad person, you will end up in unending cycle of bad paths” thing?
Why do I feel like this page is setting up the end of the comic, I really hope that isn’t the case

I love this but at the same time this breaks my heart

I guess you could call it… groundbreaking.
