Whoa! Vix sure got a hearty promotion. She was originally just a student, there… as… far as we knew? I don’t guess we know much about her life before Fen, actually…
Well, there’s something to think about for another chapter or a sequel comic, huh?
Wow, was this lesson about focusing? I can read picture on the right side of blackboard, looks for me like resonance between magic sphere and the one’s person. But what about Fen’s picture? Some kind of controllable two-way resonance? Something about balancing one’s attention? – Can you teach me to read these pictures? Please?
Also thank you for explaining the significance of correct focusing and mentioning “gate-essence-intent-application” concept. It helped me a ton and a lot!
I can’t teach you to read it because I just make it up as I go, there’s no logic to it beyond looking visually logical. 😉 Spot on with the right side though. The whole board is essentially conveying the structure, transference and command/control mechanisms of magic orb to user.
Well, I guess scientists are kind of «making it up» discoveries «as they go» too, amazing other people on everyday basis. Also even scientists have difficulties to teach each other, and scientific learning is more like rediscovering the way things are, I think.
So what I’m really asking – is not a lecture that will cover the thoughts behind the pictures, but a clue that will help me to discover them by myself. Like, maybe right words…
Ok, I’ll try to read, you may just point me where I’m wrong.
Reading Fen scheme (left bottom one) from left to right:
The _gate_ (׀|) is channeling _essence_ that splits inside the user in two simultaneous paths, each of them represents the way (some kind of style, or fundamental method) of transforming essence by mind of the user (O). As the user mind works on _intent_ it shifts the flow of essence according to needs different stages of the whole cast process.
_Intent_ itself goes through visualization (<), balancing paths (||), and than shaping (ϴ) transforming and balancing _essence_ into _application_,
The result of the cast must be well connected to the external world (external frame), supporting it's existence and the return path to the source.
If I got the idea right, can you, please, suggest some keywords to help me understand or rediscover the gist, the idea of top and bottom paths?
I think, I got it! Yesy! Probably wrong, but anyway, let me show it! I think, the upper path represents the transformation of essence by similarity, analogy, metaphor, and the bottom path represents the transformation of essence by logic, causes and sequences, “the whys and wherefores”. Right?
Ok, let me try to read the rest of pictures.
The upper one behind Vix (two concentric circles crossed). From where I am, it look like external circle – “whole thing”, internal circle, core – “the part of the whole we understand”, which is always much less than the whole thing. The cross – is the point of our interest, point of attention, focus may be. And the covered sector – is what we can do, which contains part we understand and part – we don’t, within the same proportion.
And the last picture Let’s say, the frame – represents the world, and the connected triangle (like visualization, but pointed backwards) – represents connected observations. I guess the text reveals the proper way of observation, that makes the most impact, but I don’t recognize nor alphabet nether writing system. Is it a sensible text? How to read it?
O! That is obvious now! Because one does only a quarter of what he knows, he should not only pay attention to things he does do, but also pay triple more attention to observe things he does not do. Like in phrase “During negotiation it is good to hear what has been said, but you should pay more attention to things that has not been.” That is why the cross is pointing right in the middle of concentric circles and only a sector is covered.
I don’t really know how far am I from original “visual logic” of these pictograms.
Close enough 😉 The idea is that the right side shows orb, through filter converter, wirelessly to user, who then converts it back to useable material. Fen’s filling in the filter logic, the other schematic is the wireless transfer, which is a gateway system.
I find it funny that we are trying to make sense if this even though we are talking about a half dragon half fox girl who impregnated another girl half her age. There is a 600 years old dragon teaching them in a school that the students have more sex than they learn. And the writer of this comic hhappens too be a red panda.
Yes! Yes, I do like making sense! May I try to make some more for you?
You see, Vix was virgin the day she left the temple for the first time. So my guess – we are looking at the story from Fen’s perspective, which is very special if not totally extraordinary.
Moreover, you may notice the students are passionate to learn, they all are “focused”, so I guess they work hard, and “sex episodes” are more like precious moments (remember this page https://www.feretta.net/comic/a-tale-of-tails-4-61/ – girl is waiting, not taking chances to ruin the moment by disturbing, which is not likely if sex is really everyday something as brushing teeth).
Also, it was not declared that Fen impregnated Vix, it was what Mis said… So you may make more sense of it! 🙂
This comic is really complicated.
If Fen didn’t impregnate Vix, who did? That would most likely be another species which would make the babies … funny looking, aside from it not being physically impossible.
To address the first point, Vix was young. And we don’t know what Miss tought her up until then.
I know. As for me, the same kind of magic takes place IRL every time one makes something that did not exist before – stuff, technology, general art, all the same. So I took my time and tried to understand the idea just to save many times more to comprehend the idea.
And the coincidence took place. I was going to ask author for more Vix’s lessons, even did some exercises to spruce up my English, but Feretta had posted it the day before I wrote my request. Lucky me! So the lesson was given, and I had some homework to do.
I usually dont read unfinished comics, and Ive only had one other exception, so big props to you for making an amazing comic. Im not into magic, dragons, and shit like that in general, let alone the furry world, and your comics is absolutly amazing. Really great work youve done, just spent the last 4 ½ hours binging this, might have to read through again.
Well if you remember in previous chapters there is a requirement of a implant to use the “magic”. Though I wonder if over time her father upgraded the technology to be nanomachines or something.
I am in Japan (english is my first language and i learned Japanese young) and I teach some of my friends proper english with this comic. Maybe not the best tool, but it works. Some of them were wondering how old are the characters. I was wondering too, so I hope you can answer this question Feretta.
In-comic, Fen is 23, Vix is 12, Lamb is 20, Mis is 302.
In real world age, this is equivalent to 40, 22, 38 and like 600 for Mis. It’s kinda like dog years vs human years.
Vix, grew up learning this stuff like a family language. She is also likely a Savant in this area of knowledge. Teaching this stuff is probably slowing her down long enough to write down legible explanations for what she is doing.
That stuff looks a lot like electronic circuits, I guess that’s what you were going for right? Do you know electrical engineering by any chance?
Also I’m a long time lurker but this is my first comment, you’re pretty amazing feretta.
In a lot of SF/fantasy works these days, “Enchanted” objects often have the “Magic Runes” look a lot like printed circuitry, with various Gemstones that have been “prepared” fitted in where the Electronic Bits and bobs go. (I don’t have the Collective name for electronic parts.) So it seems logical to me.
It would not surprise me if some fur had worked out how to make transformers that convert manna from one Type to another. There was probably a lot of “KaBOOM”-age Occurring during the Development process tho…
Ah, yes – Garfield’s law, I remember that: ‘Any sufficiently advanced trading card game is indistinguishable from Magic: the Gathering’ indeed.
On a more serious note, I see your Gehm’s corollary, and raise you one Ambrose: Any technology, no matter how primitive, is magic to those who don’t understand it.
so not to be rude at all I love the comic can we get more pee content in the sex parts if possible please

Also, Miss Vixavil’s outfit is super-cute!
She’s been living at the temple since she was a wee little newborn girl, she’s had plenty of time to become a teacher 😉
Teacher vix is cute

But, you did good Mikhail.
Yes! Yes, I do like making sense! May I try to make some more for you?

You and I seem like we would get along IRL
I wasn’t trying to upset you, I was doing the same logic in my head with the curcuits. I honestly am suprised that you took the time to understand it.
I know. As for me, the same kind of magic takes place IRL every time one makes something that did not exist before – stuff, technology, general art, all the same. So I took my time and tried to understand the idea just to save many times more to comprehend the idea.

Magic works like a circuit board? I like that approach a lot. Also, pregger Vin is just so cute.
Well if you remember in previous chapters there is a requirement of a implant to use the “magic”. Though I wonder if over time her father upgraded the technology to be nanomachines or something.
Vix has a baby bump
She sure do.
Omg i love Vix’s hair!
It grows pretty quick when it’s left to do so :3
Vix makes a hot teacher… <3

Also, wow that is a pretty big age difference between Fen and Vix.
Had us in the first half, not gonna lie.
I Really love Vix 💜
Who doesn’t
That stuff looks a lot like electronic circuits, I guess that’s what you were going for right? Do you know electrical engineering by any chance?
Also I’m a long time lurker but this is my first comment, you’re pretty amazing feretta.
My original education is as an electrician, so I’ve always had some interest in the electronics world. :p
In a lot of SF/fantasy works these days, “Enchanted” objects often have the “Magic Runes” look a lot like printed circuitry, with various Gemstones that have been “prepared” fitted in where the Electronic Bits and bobs go. Tbf, it’s kinda hard to tell how much of their magic is magic and how much is sufficiently advanced science of the first world.
if your technology is distinguishable from magic it isn’t Sufficiently Advanced.
Nice reference! That’s another comic I quite like.
