PATH is fascinating. I saw the “paths divine” etc. in the later iterations of the world, is PATH still active? Could Fen, for instance, be recreated in her world via PATH? And if so, how/why/when did PATH stop being used? Fen’s world is obviously set in a more magical, less scientific environment than this one, is PATH more or less dormant at the time of Fen? Great comic so far though, looking forward to where all the sciency stuff goes!
A big tank full of stuff in the middle of a constructed planet made out of water.
It’s a very complex device to explain, but in short: It’s the name of the Farelliar universe’s digital existence host. It records and stores everyone as digital creatures, in case of physical body failure.
(I’m from Russia, so there may be mistakes because of the translator)
I have a question, does this machine just copy the chip carrier, or does it create a double, thus creating a collective mind with a double, able to move the carrier A will merge with the carrier B in the event of the death of the carrier A?
It’s a no-duplicates type system, where only one side can be active at any given time. People can live in the digital world, or choose to occupy a host body in the physical world, during which the digital copy gets transferred to that, with a continuous backup system in place should anything bad happen. Before the event, they could also swap in and out as they saw fit, your body goes to sleep for the night in the real world, your digital brain wakes up to go explore some rad new digital VR experience, for instance.
The two parts can not be active at the same time, to prevent divergence, which could cause severe mental trauma when the two recombine. That’s also why they couldn’t just bring Baelin back, he wasn’t registered as physically deceased, and hadn’t logged out of his chip, so his brain is inaccessible. I didn’t explain this in the comic because I just came up with it a few days ago >_>
Slight problem, although I could be misunderstanding this. You called it a no-duplicates system due to the possibility of duoexistential mishaps. Makes sense. But there’s … a backup. There is, in fact, a duplicate. There is the active neurochip in the physical body, then there is an inactive neurochip in PATH. And yes this isn’t a problem on it’s own but it becomes a problem when you introduce divergence. Divergence can only happen when both are active at the same time and are answerable to the same control point. This means every being has to be aware of both chips simultaneously and forced to reconcile them at the end of the day (or at some point.) This actually defeats the purpose of PATH on it’s own. The two chips are not dependent on each other, so divergence cannot occur. Otherwise can you imagine what would happen to the people you revived when they have to reconcile two neurochips and only have one to work with? If someone dies unexpectedly how does PATH know it is death and not just that the living chip is unavailable? I know you’ve kinda cemented this in with Baelin as a forced reconciliation (if it wasn’t then Baelin could have been recreated) but it causes problems for all the ones who died in the event…
This is diving way too deep :p But to ease your mind..
When you occupy your body, the virtual mind gets put to sleep, and continuously updates with all your experiences in the real world as if it’s there itself. Your mind can only live one life at a time, and your experience of the world, both virtual and physical, is continuous, there’s no experience of being a backup.
As for registry of death, they have a VIRTUAL EXISTENCE SYSTEM that takes backups of people’s brains, I think they’ll have ways to figure out if someone’s actually dead or not. Clearly Baelin didn’t register as dead in the event, being at the center of the “accident”. Either way, don’t worry about it, it’s not really that important how the everything works, we goin’ back home now :p
Yeah um, piczel Is down, idk the reason, but I asked some friends to use the link and they told me(with screenshots) that the site is down
So yeah no stream for today
“But whether by choice or not, we all follow the Path..”
And ever since then, mentionings of things like ‘oh paths divine’ as a soft expletive (like ‘oh heavens’ in real life, though perhaps with more weight) in various contexts…
I love how you have all these cool things going on in the background, describe them enough so everyone understands the very basics of what it is, and then move on because they aren’t really relevant.
Dont know if anyone asked yet but……Feretta are you a furry :3
I think most people here are furries (including me :p)

Ok, so I feel like I’m missing something. What in the world is PATH?

okay, thanks for the explanation. (I would still find fault with many things, but I will not. :3)

Hmm, is piczel.tv down only for me?
Or for everyone?
Because I can’t even access the site
Why are you asking here? ;-;
Yeah um, piczel Is down, idk the reason, but I asked some friends to use the link and they told me(with screenshots) that the site is down

Fretta, your giving me some serious SOMA vibes and that game scared the crap out of me when I played it
Does “everyone’s neurochips” mean backups of everyone who was on the planet, or just the orbital survivors?
:O From the first page:
“But whether by choice or not, we all follow the Path..”
And ever since then, mentionings of things like ‘oh paths divine’ as a soft expletive (like ‘oh heavens’ in real life, though perhaps with more weight) in various contexts…
… And now we see what it actually refers to.
I just realized that!
…You haven’t visited The Lore Corner, have you?
Paragraph 6, if you are interested.
Also, there is a “oh, hell” analogue parallel to “oh, heavens” in-universe, iirc.
That desperately needs an update.
Hold-up ,does Alfred’s power make him Immortal?
A million years would suggest so.
Just making sure it was that and not an out side source does it extend the life of other users?
Hey Fer, do you have any tips to get ‘popular’? Like as a (terrible) artist
Work hard, get good and build up a following.
I think u mean ‘git gud’
Just making sure it was that and not an out side source does it extend the life of other users?
Alf is basically a cosmic being now, he doesn’t play by the rules of mortality :p
oops wrong place
I love how you have all these cool things going on in the background, describe them enough so everyone understands the very basics of what it is, and then move on because they aren’t really relevant.
:3 They’re just relevant enough to briefly cover and that’s that.
snek will help.. 1 shovel at a time!~
Good boobsnek.
I is gon boop da snek, *boop*
Hm.
Path versus Cycle.
Makes sense.
This is seriously cool
Damn, so he basically remade the world
whos gonna repopulate:3
Now we exactly know why there aren’t humans, the world 3nded 9 times and no one knows about the first seed
Misstyped e with 3 :p
