Hello, long time fan. Been reading this religiously. Looking forward to new episodes every time I get on.
I’ve been working on my own anime like cartoon. And would love some advice. I can draw but it’s more so developing bad guys for my work. Any ideas would be great. The main characters I have down pretty good.
I saw others ask for advice, and I thought it’s would be great to get some wisdom from talent like yours.
Thank, honestly I could use the help. I’d love to build a team. I figure if I could get a few more artists and writers. It’s would help move things along. I’m trying to go to school soon for computer and graphic designs. So, I can turn my art to animation.
Character writing is a bit of a complex matter. Here’s a few things to consider for all your characters, be they good or evil:
– What’s their motivation and why?
– What brought them to the point they’re currently at?
– What are their strengths and weaknesses?
– What’s their personality type?
– Other things?
All you need to do to change a character from good to evil is alter their way of reasoning, their perspective/motivation. Some of the best evil characters are complex, realistic people who genuinely believe they’re doing the right thing and everyone else is wrong.
Of course, it can also be as simple as “Blah I want revenge on the world for fucking with me blah!”
This helps a good bit. I’ve used rping as a way to help develop a better feel for personality and such. So, I think I have those down pat. It’s come up with I guess strong enough or more powerful bad guys in general.
You mean like completely redraw everything with rewritten scenes and setups, to publish as a physical book? Why yes, I have thought of doing that. And I intend to, once I finish the first book worth of stuff.
Oh, I have HUNDREDS of tips for rookie artists. I’d have to see what level you’re at before I can give you any reasonable feedback though. Recommend swinging by my stream (https://piczel.tv/watch/Feretta – 7 PM CET pretty much daily) and poking at me to talk about anything you’re struggling with.
As a general thing though, there are three important things to always keep in mind;
– It takes years, sometimes decades, to get good, and the more time you put into it, the faster you’ll grow.
– Boxes are your most important ally in learning how to draw 3D shapes. Basic shapes are boring, but crucial, and you can build an entire city out of nothing but boxes. Or people, if you get the technique down.
– Don’t be afraid to trace things in order to get a feel for what someone else did. But be careful not to go posting it as your own unique work. Trace to learn, not to boast. Also, after tracing, draw the same thing off to the side, using the original as reference. Practice -> Application.
And after some calculating, I can’t actually see any of your streams because at the time it would be up it would be about 3am and it would end at 7am in my timezone. so, sorry about that ;-;
Is the name of his hammer, Mjolnir?
I think about too. Maybe?

Fer have you ever thought of doing some sort of thing where you draw your earlier comics with your improved skillfullness
You mean like completely redraw everything with rewritten scenes and setups, to publish as a physical book? Why yes, I have thought of doing that. And I intend to, once I finish the first book worth of stuff.
How much is a first books worth?
Probably through chapter 7, possibly 8.
